Dr. Gençer Genç graduated from Gülhane Military Medical Academy, Gülhane Military Medical Faculty in Ankara as a medical doctor in 2001. He did his neurology residency in the same institute. Dr. Genç worked as a Research Fellow for one year at Cleveland Clinic, Neurological Institute, Center for Neurological Restoration, Movement Disorders & Deep Brain Stimulation Section, Cleveland, Ohio, USA, where he mainly focused on movement disorders and deep brain stimulation studies.
He has taken part in many clinical studies in the field of neurology and published his findings in more than 50 articles and 150 abstracts. He has 12 book chapters published by international/national publishing houses or organizations. He currently serves on the Turkish Parkinson’s Disease Society Board. Dr. Genç is the Turkish Ambassador of the International Association of Parkinsonism and Related Diseases (IAPRD), a member of the Editorial Committee of the IAPRD Newsletter, and the Section Editor of the Şişli Etfal Hospital Medical Bulletin. He is also a member of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), International Parkinson and Movement Disorders Society (MDS), Turkish Neurological Society Movement Disorders and Multiple Sclerosis Working Groups. He serves as a researcher in international and national clinical research projects, and as an invited speaker, a member of Organizing Committee and Scientific Committee in many congresses and symposiums.
Currently, he works as a Professor of Neurology at Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital of University of Health Sciences in İstanbul, and simultaneously he is doing PhD at Koç University Neuroscience Program at KUTTAM-NDAL. His studies primarily focus on the understanding of the complex genetics of Parkinson’s disease and the investigation of promising treatment modalities on movement disorders.
